  • Marius Zaromskis will like face Kiyoshi Tamura in a welterweight title fight at the March 22 Dream 13, which will take place at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. Zaromskis was last in action losing to Nick Diaz at Saturday’s Strikeforce: Miami, while Tamura hasn’t been in action since defeating Kazushi Sakuraba at Dynamite!! 2008. [MMAFighting]
  • Several fights have been added to Sengoku Raiden Championship 12 which is scheduled for March 7 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo. Former EliteXC 140 pound champion Wilson Reis will make his SRC debut against Yuji Hoshino. Also likely for the event, both Marlon Sandro and Leonardo Santos will look to return to the promotion at the event, against as yet named opponents, and Shigeki Osawa will face Kyung Ho Kang.
  • Former UFC middleweight David Loiseau, who was born to Haitian parents who had immigrated to Canada, has secured a charity fight to benefit victims of the January earthquake in Haiti. He will headline “Mixed Fight League 2: Battleground” against Isidro Gonzales, and for every ticket sold $2 will be donated to the American Red Cross to benefit their relief efforts in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti. Other notables on the card include Jon Murphy and Marvin Eastman. [MMAJunkie]
  • Veteran regional promotion King Of The Cage and HDNet have announced a deal that will see monthy KOTC events aired live on the cable network over the next three years. The first event scheduled to be shown as part of the agreement will be the promotion’s February 12 “KOTC: Vengeance” fight card which features Tyler East vs. Tony Lopez, Rich Clementi vs. Anthony Lapsley, and Travis Wiuff vs. Mike Kyle.
  • Strikeforce: Miami, which aired on Showtime Saturday night drew 517,000 viewers, making it the second most watched MMA event on Showtime, trailing the Carano vs. Cyborg card which drew 576,000. The UFC counter-programmed the Strikeforce event by rebroadcasting December’s UFC 107 pay-per-view on SpikeTV, and drew 2.2 million viewers.
  • “Ring of Fire 37: Warlords” is set for Omaha, Nebraska on March 5th and will be headlined by Alfonzo Martinez vs. Demi Deeds. The fight card will also feature former “The Ultimate Fighter” contestants and UFC fighters, Junie Browning and Justin Wren.
  • Brazilian promotion, Vale Tudo Championships will be holding a Brazil vs. USA card on March 6 in Manaus, Amazonas which will be headlined by former WEC and UFC fighter Nissen Osterneck taking on Tigrau in a middleweight matchup. Also on the card is CFP star Tomar Washington, and the MMA Debut of Hawaiian surfing legend Kala Alexander. The full fight card can be found on the Vale Tudo Championships website.

The online pay-per-view can be purchased on Aggression MMA’s website.
  • Shine Fights has recently inked multi-fight deals with veteran welterweight Nick Thompson, and Abu Dhabi champion Braulio Estima. Estima is an MMA newcomer, but defeated Andre Galvao and Alexandre Rebeiro in winning ADCC. At Abu Dhabi he competed at approximately 194 pounds, so it is unclear what weight class he will fight in for his MMA debut.
  • Following losses in his first two fights with the promotion, the UFC has decided to cut light heavyweight Razak Al-Hassan from their roster, according to Fiveouncesofpain.com. Al-Hassan entered the UFC undefeated, but lost via armbar to Steve Cantwell in his debut, and then dropped a decision to Kyle Kingsbury in his last outing.

    - Hopefully a return overseas will see WHitemare return to his winning ways, and put the Diaz thing behind him.

    - I was wondering when something MMA-related was going to drop regarding Haiti. Good on Loiseau and the others for doing the right thing.

    - I was also wondering when some cable channel was going to wake up and smell the cafe con leches and sign an agreement with a regional MMA promotion.
Most of the mid- and lower-tier cable channels are hard up for marketable content, and most regional MMA orgs are hard up for eyes on the product, and hard coin.
Sounds like the HDNet/KoTC thing is not only a good idea, but if successful will serve as a future business model for other orgs and channels.
Local access Hawaiian cable has been doing this for years with local MMA orgs, including Kingdom MMA.

    - How the He11 is Ring of Fire going to drop an Omaha event without the city’s unoffical MMA mayor, Houston “Scrib” Alexander??
    ;)

    - IMO some enterprising video company really needs to sign a working agreement with Vale Tudo, and or Shooto, to get their stuff out therr on DVD and download and make both parties some coin.
Some of the best shoot-type fights I’ve ever seen have come from Shooto and Vale Tudo, and to the best of my knowledge none of that stuff is finding its way onto N American DVD, and then into your local BestBuy or better yet, amazon.com

    - Say what you want abot CoCo the Peeing Monkey, but at least Jesse Taylor is doing something decent by fighting on a card thats donating to the Haitian relief effort.
Thats more than a lot of us are doing IMO.

    - Shine Fights has got a few dencent fighters, and a lot of passion and energy. Good to see them keeping their thing going.
The more decent orgs there are out there, the more MMA fighters get fights, which causes a reflexive rise in talent.
Another exmaple of the old adage, “a rising tide floats all boats”.
Almost makes me wonder what the Bizzes and Gunslinger are waiting for in order to start their own Ohio Fight Club.
    ;)

    - I lost a lot of confidence in Al Hassan after losing to Kyle Kingsbury, and apparently so has Joe Silva & Co.
Lets be honest here, Kingsbury isn’t exactly a step away from challanging Machida, and Al Hassan never really lived up to his potential.
Best of luck to him on the small show circuit, or possibly Strikeforce, where maybe he can fight his way back to the big show someday…

Mostly the fact that the Bizzes don’t like pain.

I think it would be cool to see Diaz and Lawler matchup against zaromskis and manhoef for a show in Japan . This time they fight in the Dream Ring . I had posted before about using the white cage for a co promote but it would be cool to fight under dreams rules in the ring . Besides that white cage is a special deal . Love that f ‘ing thing though
