UFC 196: Nate Diaz Says Bout With Conor McGregor “Needed to Happen”

Nate Diaz

Following Nate Diaz’s win over Michael Johnson the brash fighter made it clear he wanted to scrap Conor McGregor, and he┬áhas got his wish…

Yes, Diaz will throw down with McGregor at UFC 196 on Saturday, after Rafael dos Anjos was forced to pull out of the card due to broken foot. Recently Diaz spoke with TMZ, and while doing so, he relayed that the UFC called him, and not vice-versa, when RDA withdrew (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“There’s no other way,” Diaz said. “It’s no McGregor show. It’s a fight that needed to happen. I’m the biggest fight. They knew they were fighting me already. They were already training for me. They knew what’s up. But hey, don’t trip. Maybe I’ll plot back. They were plotting on me, I might have been plotting back too. You never know.”

There you have it. Since Saturday’s bout is a short notice fight for Diaz, it will take place at 170 pounds.

UFC 196 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
