UFC 196: RDA’s Coach Discusses Injury That Pulled Champ From McGregor Fight

Now that it’s been officially announced that Rafael dos Anjos will no longer face Conor McGregor at UFC 196, the champ’s coach has outlined how the fight ending injury went down.

On Tuesday, it was reported that RDA broke his foot recently, and as a result, he was pulling out of the March 5th card. Since then, the UFC has announced that Nate Diaz will take on the featherweight champ in a welterweight scrap. How about that?

Well, recently RDA’s coach, Rafael Cordeiro, told MMA Fighting.com the following:

“Unfortunately, an injury happened in his last training Friday,” Cordeiro said. “We were sparring, and Rafael threw a kick at the knee of the kid that was training with him. He immediately stopped kicking, put his foot on the ground, and felt a little pain. He put some ice, and couldn’t walk normally.

“He put more ice during the weekend to see if he would be able to train on Monday…He asked to visit the UFC’s doctor, and they showed the fracture.”

Hopefully RDA and McGregor lock horns at some point. It was an interesting match-up on many, many levels.
