Bellator 149’s headlining fights were widely criticized before and after they went down, but they did deliver the promotion and Spike some big ratings. Surprised?
According to a report from MMA Fighting.com, Friday’s event set new television ratings for Bellator. The event averaged 1,964,000 viewers and peaked at 2.5 million, when the Kimbo Slice – DADA 5000 bout was taking place. 2.4 million people watched Ken Shamrock – Royce Gracie III.
Bellator’s previous record was 2.3 million viewers, which was the peak audience for Shamrock – Slice. That fight took place on June 19th. The card averaged 1,580,000 viewers.
Yup, this is why Bellator went with this card and these controversial match-ups. Question is, after how things unfolded in the cage, will they go this route again?
