It’s been a couple of weeks now since Stephen Thompson took out Johny Hendricks, and the striking wizard hasn’t given up his campaign for a title shot.
After Thompson took Hendricks out in the opening round at UFC FN 82, “Wonderboy” started calling for a shot at the 170 title. While there’s no doubt that a lot of folks would love to see Thompson throw down with the champ Robbie Lawler, there’s other guys in the mix.
Carlos Condit nearly defeated Lawler in January, and he wants a rematch. Tyron Woodley was promised a title shot last October, when Hendricks had to drop out of their scheduled bout due to weight cutting issues.
Well, Thompson’s been on a media tour for the UFC in the Philippines, and while discussing Woodley, he stated this (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):
“I understand that they promised Tyron Woodley a fight, but he’s obviously not staying active,” Thompson said. “That’s what people want to see. They want to see those who are active, and they want to see a knockout. They want to see an exciting show, and I can do that for them.”
Woodley, has argued that it isn’t his fault he’s been inactive. Unfortunately for him and his fans, that might not matter.
