After receiving, and then losing, a title shot within a 24 hour period, Stipe Miocic’s camp are still campaigning for a scrap with heavyweight champ Fabricio Werdum.
Last week it was announced that Cain Velasquez would no longer fight Werdum this weekend due to injury, and that Miocic would instead. But then, ‘whoops, not so fast’, Werdum also pulled out due to injuries.
While it remains to be seen what the UFC plans to do next, Miocic’s manager, Greg Kalikas, has made it clear they want to face ‘Vai Cavalo’ next. Recently he told MMA Junkie.com the following:
“I’m not sure how long Cain will be out, but Stipe is healthy and ready to go as soon as the champion is cleared to fight,” Kalikas said. “Obviously, we are pushing hard to have the fight rescheduled and have had no indication yet that it won’t be.”
Recently Dana White reported that Velasquez won’t be sidelined long, so it will be interesting to see what the UFC does here.
