Bellator has added former UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson to its roster, and according to the promotion’s president Scott Coker, more big signings are likely ahead.
Henderson is heading to Bellator not long after fellow UFC vets like Phil Davis and Josh Thomson, also elected to sign with the Viacom promotion. Now sure, one could argue that the UFC didn’t really go the extra mile to resign these guys, but they’re big additions for Bellator nonetheless.
Recently Coker appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and while discussing the addition of Henderson, he stated (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I think this is just the tip of the iceberg,” Coker said. “Fighters are fighting out their contacts. They want to negotiate. They really want to see what their value is. We’re going to help them to define what their value is. It’s always good for the industry to have more than one bidder.”
Currently the likes of Alistair Overeem, Aljamain Sterling and Matt Mitrione are entering free agency.
