Bryan Barberena put the brakes on the Sage Northcutt hypetrain at UFC on FOX 18 last night, by submitting the highly touted prospect with an arm-triangle-choke. But, if you followed last night’s event, you know folks have been questioning whether Northcutt just panicked, and tapped before the choke was really sunk in (Barberena was in half-guard).
Well, after the card, Barberena was asked for his take on the choke, which handed him the upset win. Here’s what “Bam Bam” had to say (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I was ready to keep going and doing what I was doing, anyway,” Barberena said. “I felt I had a tight bite on the choke, and it was only getting tighter. I think I could tap anyone I get in that position if I have the right bite on it.”
It was a big win for Barberena; no question. If you saw the MMA Lab fighter compete before, however, you knew Northcutt was in tough.
