Anthony Johnson’s Willing to Wait For Title Shot, But if Chance For “Paycheck” Comes Sooner…

It didn’t take¬†Anthony Johnson¬†long to lock up another shot at the light-heavyweight title last night at UFC on FOX 18; so is “Rumble” going to wait until that happens? Possibly?

If you were planning to head out after last night’s event, then perhaps you were pleased when Johnson put away Ryan Bader in under 90 seconds. The bout was heralded as a title shot eliminator at 205.

So now Johnson will have to wait and see who wins the rematch between champion Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. That fight’s expected to happen in the coming months. Johnson was asked at the post-fight press conference if he’s willing to wait, and he said “yup”, since it’s a massive bout. But, Johnson also said this, when asked if he’d fight in the interim (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“Yeah, as a paycheck”.

“I didn’t say no matter what, because if somebody gets hurt and they need a replacement I’d definitely [be ready] if I’m healthy and ready to fight,”Johnson said. “That’s for light heavyweight and heavyweight.”

Johnson has won two straight now since he was submitted by Cormier last May, in a bout for the vacant 205 title.
