The MMA world is still buzzing about Fabricio Werdum pulling out of UFC 196, and heavyweight contender Josh Barnett believes the champ should have faced Stipe Miocic.
It’s been a crazy couple of days, as after Cain Velasquez revealed a back injury has forced him to pull out of his rematch with Werdum, Stipe Miocic was announced as his replacement. But, Werdum proceeded to announce he’s also withdrawn due to injuries. He also relayed that he wouldn’t have done so, however, if he was still fighting Velasquez.
Barnett recently met with the media in advance of his fight this Saturday with Ben Rothwell, and he was asked to comment on Werdum’s decision. Here is some of what “The Warmaster” said (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I understand his fear, but should he take that fight?” Barnett said. “I think he should. I think that’s where he should step up and blast this guy. Or at least he should have come up with a better excuse. But it’s his life to live, not mine. The fans will judge him and think whatever they want to.”
The UFC has yet to announce a new main event for UFC 196.
