UFC 196: Cain Velasquez Sidelined Again With Injury, Stipe Miocic Tapped For Title Shot

Cain Velasquez’s frequent run ins with injuries has unfortunately continued, as the UFC has announced that the heavyweight will no longer fight champion Fabricio Werdum on February 6th, due to a back injury. As a result, the #2 ranked Stipe Miocic has agreed to step in and face Werdum.

The setback is just the latest to hit Velasquez, as the former heavyweight champ has fought just once now since 2013 due to injuries. Last June he was submitted by Werdum in the third round.

Miocic, meanwhile, just fought on January 2nd and stopped Andrei Arlovski in the round one. The only man who has defeated Miocic in his last five fights is former champ Junior dos Santos.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. UFC 196 will go down on February 6th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
