Conor McGregor has started slinging verbal shots at Rafael dos Anjos again, now that they’re booked to fight at UFC 197, but it doesn’t sound like the lightweight champ is overly fazed…
For several months, McGregor has been talking about moving to 155, and the brash fighter has also opined that RDA will not hand him his first UFC loss. After it was confirmed the two will battle on March 5th, it didn’t take long before McGregor accused RDA of being a “traitor” to Brazil for living in the U.S. He also said he’ll “behead” the lightweight champ.
Well, recently dos Anjos spoke with MMA Fighting.com, and here is some of what he had to say about McGregor and the featherweight champ’s recent comments.
“Lightweight division is a different story. We’ll see. Everybody talks. Anthony Pettistalked before the fight. Donald Cerrone talked before the fight. See what happened? I’ll let him talk and we’ll see what happens. I hope he’s training hard. I think he’s going to be scared once I hit him.”
“It doesn’t make any sense,” Dos Anjos said about the “traitor” comments. “We have a lot of Brazilians in the United States. It doesn’t mean we’re traitors to our country. I’ve got kids and I had to move for different things like better wrestling training partners here. I think that was a frustrated way to try to win the Brazilian fans. This guy is out of his mind…”
Now it will be interesting to see how RDA reacts when he’s around McGregor, doing pre-fight press, as the bout approaches. On that note, he also added that he believes the “toughest part” of this camp will not be putting his hands on “Notorious” before the fight arrives. How about that?
It’s certainly going to be fascinating to see how this fight unfolds. RDA is arguably the most well rounded and most powerful fighter McGregor has faced to date in the UFC.
UFC 197 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the co-main event, Holly Holm will look to defend the bantamweight title versus Miesha Tate.
