If you thought for some reason that Conor McGregor might dial back the trash talk, now that he’s the featherweight champ and about to face the reigning lightweight king, well, you were mistaken.
McGregor has verbally belittled Rafael dos Anjos in the past, but after the UFC officially announced the two will meet on March 5th, it didn’t take long for the Irish star to start slinging words. Here is some of what McGregor had to say about RDA on Facebook recently:
Mr. McGregor would like to thank the fans and the media for their patience in this decision.
Mr. McGregor was still busy counting the take from his last fight.
He has chosen to dedicate this demolition job to the loyal people of Brazil and all the fans around the globe who stay true to their roots and loyal to their land.
Mr. McGregor has said that Rafael is a traitor to his people and vows to “behead the ‘American Gringo’ Rafael Dos Anjos, in the name of La Brasilia!”
Viva la Brasil!
See you all in Las Vegas, March 5th!!!
The King returns!
There you have it. Now, this isn’t the first time McGregor has blasted someone for electing to train and live outside of their homeland. McGregor has been critical of his fellow Irishman, Joe Duffy, for moving to Montreal, Canada to train with Tristar. RDA currently trains out of Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, California.
Now will any of this get to RDA? Possibly. Will it make Brazilian fans turn on the lightweight champ? That’s not likely. If dos Anjos goes out and defeats McGregor, the same man who took out one of Brazil’s biggest stars in Jose Aldo, chances are he’ll be widely praised for doing so. Then again, who would have predicted that Ronda Rousey would win over thousands of Brazilian fans before she fought Bethe Correia?
UFC 197 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the co-main event bantamweight champ Holly Holm will take on Miesha Tate.
