Dillashaw and Cruz will throw down in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 81 this Sunday, which will take place at Boston’s TD Garden. The fight will mark the first time Dillashaw has fought since he announced he was leaving TAM to go train with the Elevation Fight Team in Colorado. As you certainly know, since Dillashaw announced the move, he and Faber have tossed some verbal shots each other’s way.
Recently Faber appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and he was naturally asked to weigh-in on Dillashaw-Cruz. Here is some of what “The California Kid” had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“[Dominick] will be quick to talk about how he has a win over me, but they just played the fight, I think last night,” said Faber. “It was just apparent to me that he’s not that hard to hit. I’ve hit him a number of times and I’ve hit him clean on the chin, put him on his butt, my fist to his chin to his butt on three different occasions during our fight. I think T.J. will be able to do the same.
“I think he’ll probably finish him,” Faber says. “I think he’d probably knock him out.”
How about that? If Dillashaw does in fact KO Cruz that would be a massive feather in his cap. After all, Cruz has lost just once, and that was via submission to Faber in their first meeting. But, Dillashaw is the same man who has taken out Renan Barao not once, but twice, and there was a time when the latter was considered one of the planet’s best pound-for-pound fighters.
That said, while Barao is a ridiculously dangerous fighter, he is nowhere near as elusive as Cruz.
Faber will reportedly be in Boston for Sunday’s fight, and one would think the UFC could very well hand him a title shot, regardless of who wins. Dillashaw – Faber or Cruz – Faber III would be huge.
