Diego Sanchez Moving Back to Welterweight

Diego Sanchez, who had his four-fight win streak snapped in a December loss to lightweight champion BJ Penn, is headed back to welterweight for his next bout.

“Yes, I’m going back to welterweight. I’m loving my new diet. I want [Josh Koscheck] or [Jon] Fitch, but any top guy will do. Just want to give you fans the best fight,” Sanchez posted on Twitter on Monday. “(To Nate Diaz) I hear you’re going up to 170 too. I would love to welcome you to welterweight. Lets make it happen.”

After winning The Ultimate Fighter 1’s middleweight tournament over Kenny Florian, Sanchez dropped to welterweight where he went 7-2, losing only to Koscheck and Fitch while picking up notable wins over Nick Diaz, Karo Parisyan, and Joe Riggs. “Nightmare” won back-to-back bouts at lightweight over Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson before losing to Penn last month.

A date for Sanchez’s return to welterweight has yet to be determined.
