According to the Portal do Vale Tudo forums, during today’s Amazon Challenge it was announced that Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza is the newest addition to the UFC’s middleweight division. “Jacare” is Portuguese for alligator and an alligator he is indeed.
For those who aren’t familiar with Jacare, this guy sports one of the slickest and most aggressive ground games on the planet. The man is a very accomplished grappler. Some of you might recall that Jacare participated in an exhibition grappling match against UFC Heavyweight champ, Randy “the Natural” Couture back in November of ’06. Although the two men battled to a draw, Randy admitted afterwards that he spent most of the night defending against Jacare rather than being the aggressor (even though he did outweigh his opponent by a substantial amount).
Jacare presently holds an MMA record of 5-1, with all of his victories coming by way of submission. If this announcement holds to be true, it would be excellent news for the UFC’s middleweight division which is in dire need of more fighters.

Sounds like this guy is going to be a force within the division I look forward to seeing what this guy is capable of, I just hope he isnt like a few of the fighters who have made the transition to the UFC and havent lived up to there hype.
although i know nothing about this guy the division could do with new blood.its not too strong at the minute excepting silva and franklin.hopefully this might shake it up a bit!
A good signing by the UFC here. I think in his first match in the UFC, he should fight Travis Lutter.
I seen this guy fight before and he looked ok. I dont see him as a title holder…but the more in Middleweight, the better because it certainly needs better fighters.
Sounds like a powerhouse. If he kept Couture on the defense their whole match, that means he is stong as HELL.
I agree with SCOTCHYDOW, anyone who can keep Couture on the defense has to be a force to recon with
Yeah there’s a killer video out that has Jiu Jitsu highlights, look for a post tomorrow with the video. VERY good addition, though he may not even reach his “MMA Prime” for a few years as he has just 6 fights in his career so far (in addition to countless jiu jitsu tournaments).
I meant reckon not recon
