Carlos Condit has already fought the consensus, greatest welterweight of all time, but “The Natural Born Killer” believes the man he’ll face at UFC 195 is the more dangerous of the two.
Yes, the renowned 170’er Condit faced was none other than Georges St-Pierre, as the two met back in 2012 when the latter was the reigning champ. GSP won the memorable bout by unanimous decision, and in doing so, furthered his standing as one of the greatest fighters on the planet.
On Saturday, however, Condit will take on the new champ Robbie Lawler, who as any hardcore fan knows, is a different kind of beast. Recently Condit was asked to compare the two champions at this week’s open workouts, and the former interim champ relayed this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“Georges, he wasn’t as dangerous but he did have his aura about him,” Condit said. “He had this mystique. Robbie not so much, but he’s the more dangerous fighter.”
That’s an opinion a lot of folks likely have. GSP became the best welterweight on earth by developing one of the most well rounded games in the sport. When Condit faced St-Pierre he was arguably the biggest star in MMA.
Lawler, meanwhile, has secured UFC gold thanks to a punishing striking game and fantastic wrestling defense. The slugger is a fan favorite, but it remains to be seen if he can put together the type of legendary run that GSP did. If he takes out Condit on Saturday it will be a big step in that direction.
UFC 195 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
