Holloway and McGregor battled back in 2013 (it seems longer ago doesn’t it?) and the latter won the fight via unanimous decision. It marked just the second time McGregor had competed in the UFC, and due to a knee injury he incurred during the bout, he didn’t return until almost a year later.
McGregor has gone on to become one of the biggest names in combat sports, but Holloway has also been impressing and then some. The featherweight has won eight straight fights, and as a result, he’s very much in the title shot mix. So much so, he’s been calling for another scrap with McGregor.
Recently Holloway spoke with FOX Sports.com, and during the interview, he had this to say about “Notorious”:
“The interesting thing is you can go look in every one of his interviews — he never talks about me. I don’t know what the reason is, I always hope it’s respect. He’s a respectful guy and you’ve got to respect what he’s doing. He runs his mouth about everyone else but never runs his mouth about me. He brings up all his past opponents except one name and that name is Max Holloway. So I don’t have to beg. I know I’m in his mind.”
How about that huh? Chances are once McGregor hears Holloway’s theory on this, the brash champ will start talking about the latter…and his comments might not be so respectful.
Would McGregor – Holloway II be an interesting fight? Absolutely. But barring some injuries and fights falling through, chances are it’s not going to happen any time soon. All signs point to McGregor facing Frankie Edgar next, and if not him, Rafael dos Anjos (or even Nate Diaz?).
