Donald Cerrone

Even if you were picking Rafael dos Anjos over Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 17, chances are you didn’t believe the lightweight champ would storm through him like he did.

RDA needed just over a minute to put away Cerrone with a vicious series of strikes. Since Cerrone had won eight straight fights, and had impressed in many of those outings, many believed “Cowboy” was going to be a stiff test for the champ in the rematch.

After the devastating loss, here’s some of what Cerrone had to say about his performance at the post-fight presser (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“Sometimes you just don’t show up to work, so you get your ass kicked,” Cerrone said. “Hat’s off to the son of a (expletive). He did what he had to do. … The knee is what started it. Then he put a great onslaught of punches on me. He did a great job overwhelming me, and he did what he had to do to remain champ. Sometimes you just don’t show up, and in our profession, that’s a bad day.”

It will be interesting to see what comes next for Cerrone. Look for the perennial contender to remain a big presence in the division.
