Former middleweight title challenger Patrick Cote will likely make his return to action, following a long layoff due to injury, against rising contender Alan Belcher at UFC 113 which will take place on May 1 in Montreal, with TopMMANews reporting that the bout has been signed.
Cote was last in action in October 2008 against Anderson Silva in a contest for the UFC middleweight championship, but suffered a fight ending knee injury in the third round giving “The Predator” a TKO loss. Following the contest Cote underwent ACL surgery to repair the damaged knee. As he was thought to be nearing a return to action in 2009, he was forced to undergo a second surgery on the knee, this time to repair his MCL.
Belcher is coming off of a first TKO victory over Wilson Gouveia in a 195 pound catchweight bout at UFC 107, bouncing back from a controversial split-decision loss to Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 100. Both contests earned Belcher “Fight of the Night” honors.

I LIKE IT!!!
Cote is the better boxer but Belcher has really impressed me as of late. I’ll give the UD nod to Belcher on this one given the ring rust for Cote.
Yea I like this matchup should be a great slugfest, I see Belcher coming out on top in a UD….nothing against Cote but he’s been out too long and Belcher is coming in with some hot kicks and hands
^^ Agreed!
This is a tough fight to come back to for cote. No matter who you are or think you are, being out for that long will have an effect on you when you return to live action. There’s always that punchers chance that cote has. But I think i’m going to have to say Belcher by UD also.
Its going to be an exciting fight but ring rust or not Cote has on of the best chins in the business I give this fight to Cote ko 2nd rnd
main card? or spike prelim?
i was talking to cote a couple months ago and he said he wanted rich franklin for this card and that defiantly would have been on the main card i know that
not taking anything away from these guys both are good for main cards imo
just wondering what people think? and where it should be?
i was there last year and im gonna be there for sure this year, things look to be shaping up nice, i just hopeing they put the rampage vs evans on here … if so … records will be broken again this year just like last
Probably main card, but nothing is determined yet. Cote wanted Franklin, but since Franklin is trying to focus on 205 that was not likely. Also, Franklin just had surgery, so not sure when he will be back.
As far as Rampage v. Sugar, that is expected to be on this card, but from what I know, there are not agreements signed or anything.
I think Franklin is staying at 205 so it wouldn’t benefit Rich to fight a middleweight.
This fight should be on the main card.
I guess I’ll swim upstream from the general frenZied consensus and say that Cote will make an explosive return with a T/KO win over Belcher…
And I will agree with Chef Jcohl.
I love watching Belcher fight so I hope this fight is on the main card (or at least gets squeezed into the live telecast as filler for PPV maincard). I give the UD to Belcher also. I just cant picture Cote being finished by Belcher like he would have against the Spider, lol.
Cote by KO(tko). I think Belcher has improved, his physique leads me to think he is training more seriously but Cote will catch him with a quick heavy shot.
I was never thought Belcher as more than a mid level fighter…i do like his heart and stand up style but i put Cote in a different level.
It could be a great fight but one thing Cote has been since he started was a fast heavy hitter and the speed has been the difference for him.
It’s always good to see a guy make a comeback from an injury. I hope that he doesn’t fight scared like he did against Anderson Silva. I predict that Belcher knocks him out in the third round.
