Rockhold battered Chris Weidman with ground-and-pound strikes on Saturday, during the third round of their scrap, before he stopped the middleweight by doing the same thing in round four. Since Yoel Romero earned a split decision win over fellow top contender “Jacare” Souza earlier that evening, the powerful wrestler is expected to challenge Rockhold next.
But, following the victory, Rockhold relayed he wasn’t all that impressed with Romero’s victory, and said he’d prefer to get “Vitor Belfort on a silver platter”. Since Rockhold was blasted by a Belfort spinning kick in 2013, the new champ has repeatedly said he wants another crack at the “Phenom”.
Well, recently Belfort had this to say in response to Rockhold on Instagram:
@lukerockhold minha cabeça está muito bem colocada no meu corpo e assim permanecerá. Diferente da sua, que pelo visto continua rodando desde 2013. Nada é pessoal, apenas negócio!#belfortvsrockhold2 #teambelfort @lukerockhold my head is very well placed in my body and will remain so. Different from yours that apparently still spinning since 2013. Nothing is personal, it is all about business! #belfortvsrockhold2 #teambelfort
How about Mr. Belfort firing back a zinger huh? Now, could this rematch happen?
The chances of it happening next are probably quite slim. Since Belfort is just one win removed from a loss to Weidman this past May, when the later was the champ, the UFC likely won’t want to leap over Romero….right? There’s also been a lot of talk that the UFC is looking at having Belfort rematch Anderson Silva next.
