Now, if you watched the card, you know that Northcutt was quickly put in a tough spot, after Cody Pfister took him down. The latter wasn’t able to land any massive shots from above, but Pfister was staying pretty active, which is why many people were puzzled / angered by the ref’s decision to stand them up.
Northcutt had turned the tables as round one came to a close, and then in round two, he finished Pfister with a guillotine choke. After the card, Northcutt was of course asked for his opinion on the stand-up, and the 19 year-old relayed that “the referees are very smart” (quote via MMA Junkie.com). Aw. That’s nice.
But, what did UFC boss man Dana White think of it? Well, he called it “ridiculous”.
During the fight collective eyebrows were also likely raised by UFC commentator’s Jon Anik, who commented that Northcutt isn’t allowed to use the internet…Yes, Northcutt was also asked about this well.
“That’s funny,” he said. “I can use the Internet. I have to use it for my schoolwork, too. He must be making a joke. That’s funny.”
Yes. That is funny. Now this aside, it will be interesting to see what comes next for Northcutt in the cage, and how he performs. Pfister demonstrated that Northcutt may have some work to do, in terms of working off his back, but the latter did show heart, resiliency and some submission skills in his latest win. So, in other words, the hype train remains on track.
