A lot of folks have cited inadequacies in Ronda Rousey’s striking game and strategy for why Holly Holm crushed her at UFC 193, but Dana White is reporting the former champ had other issues prior to the defeat.
Yes, since the loss, Rousey’s approach that night has been heavily scrutinized, and some have concluded the star was just over rated. Others, have noted, that Rousey had a lot going on leading up to the fight. Not only was Rousey doing a ton of media appearances, but her mother publicly blasted Edmond Tarverdyan, and the star’s relationship with Travis Browne was also in the news.
Recently Dana White appeared on “Off The Record”, a Canadian sports show, and he had this to say about Rousey (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I’ve talked to her almost everyday after the fight and when she sat down with me and Lorenzo a few days ago, she said, ‘I was exhausted going into that fight. I was exhausted mentally, physically, emotional,'” White said. “She had a lot of personal things going on, too, with her family.”
Really, it’s not surprising to hear this, and even if you feel Rousey was exposed at UFC 194, it’s hard to deny she’s been juggling a lot in recent months. The show’s host, Michael Landsberg, apparently pointed to how enraged Rousey got at the UFC 193 weigh-ins, as a possible sign of what White relayed. The UFC boss man noted that the outburst was out of character for Rousey.
It’s going to be very interesting to hear what Rousey has to say about the loss when she gives an in depth interview.
