Nakamura Flunks Post-UFC 76 Drug Test
Kazuhiro Nakamura has tested positive for marijuana in a post-fight drug test conducted after his UFC 76 loss to Lyoto Machida according to the California State Athletic Commission. The CSAC has fined Nakamura $500 and suspended him from competition for 3 months until December 21st.
Nakamura was the only fighter who failed the drug tests for drugs of abuse. All tests regarding performance enhancing drugs are still pending.
Nakamura has an 11-7 MMA record though his losses have come against the likes of “Shogun”, Josh Barnett, Wanderlei Silva, and Dan Henderson. He is one of many former PRIDE fighters who has transitioned to the UFC. At UFC 76 he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida in his UFC debut.

I didnt know they knew what weed was in Japan. haha
I think it explains his prefight antics at the weigh-ins.
[...] to UFC Daily for the heads up. [...]
Of course the know what weed is, look at their eyes….. Just kidding, yeah he was pretty trippy. I still don’t know how much I agree with the “pot policy” in MMA. I understand that it’s illegal, but it doesn’t effect a fighters performance (for the positive anyways) I don’t know, I used to smoke it, I quit, but I think alcohol is a lot worse. I guess it’s just the leagal issue. I am just soured because of them taking Nick Diaz’s win over Gomi away. That was an amazing fight, and I wasn’t even HIGH.
I agree with a lot of what you wrote there Scotchydow, in regards of it is not a drug that can enhance ones performance. I would have thought it would have sent him in the other direction and made him too chilled out, anyway fighters know the score drugs are not tolerated, whatever drug they are in any way/ shape or form.
The pot thing goes to it does to a lot of us now. You may not do it while at work but if you get hurt or your number gets randomly pulled out then you get popped. Do we(most) of us still do something while taking that risk? I don’t think so. If these guys really want the ultimate goal then abstaining is the only option. There windows are so short sometimes that I just don’t understand the thought process. I love to partake everyonce in a while but not if my livelihood is affected! Just my thoughts!
I honestly couldn’t care less if fighters smoke pot or not. I think what is irritating is that fighters know for a fact that they are going to be tested. It’s not like other sports where testing is random and there is a chance to dodge the bullet. They know that if their name is on a fight card, they are going to have to pee in a cup. Considering how much time they are given before a fight to train etc, it’s not that hard to figure out when they need to stop doing whatever drug they are doing to make sure that the test comes up clean. It definitely makes me start questioning his intelligence.
Nakamura did fight like he was high. Maybe he should have smoked some other drugs and maybe he would have super high and not have any fears and then he would have had a crazy game plan and knocked out Machida. I’m kiddin; high or not he would have lost that fight anyway.
I don’t know who would want to fight Machida; his style is so boring, but effective. Also his style frustrates other fighters and he is a bad match-up for most Light Heavyweight fighters. I agree with Joe Rogan and think Nakamura should drop down to 185.
