Yes, since Jones was reinstated by the UFC, the star has been posting plenty of pics and videos demonstrating the fact he’s pretty ripped. Of course, Jones has always been in shape come fight time, but “Bones” has admitted in the past that he didn’t do much training in between fights.
Well, recently Cormier appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and the light-heavyweight champ was asked about Jones workout regime. Here is some of what “DC” had to say (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):
“Maybe he feels that by getting stronger, it’s going to make him a better fighter,” Cormier said. “The reality is, when I saw him getting so bulky, as a competitor, I thought, ‘Wow, this isn’t bad for me.’ This isn’t bad for me as a competitor, because the Jon Jones that was kind of skinny and maybe wasn’t the bulkiest guy, it all worked…
“Looking at all the extra bulk, to me I was like, ‘Well, maybe this will slow him down. Maybe he won’t be the fastest guy. Maybe this guy is messing with what was given to him.’ In reality, what has been given to him is perfect.”
It’s an interesting point that Cormier is raising; however, one could also argue that perhaps Jones will be even more explosive than before…Further, if he wasn’t training much when he wasn’t in camp, how good will he be when he is? This is, after all, a guy who has never suffered a real defeat, and has fought the best of the best at 205.
Cormier and Jones are expected to have their rematch in early 2016, however, no date has been announced. Jones decisioned his rival this past January. Since then Cormier has defeated Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson.
