UFC Fight Night 21 Likely for March 31 in North Carolina
UFC Fight Night 21, which takes place on March 31 and serves as the lead-in for the debut of The Ultimate Fighter 11, is expected to take place in North Carolina, according to MMAjunkie, with a specific location and venue to-be-determined.
The UFC’s most-recent event in North Carolina was UFC Fight Night 16: Fight for the Troops in December 2008 in Fayetteville, with UFC 5 and UFC 3 also held in the state.
Raleigh and Charlotte are the likely front-runners to host the card, which currently doesn’t have any rumored matchups or fighters.
The event will be the fourth Zuffa-promoted event in March, following WEC 47 Bowles vs. Cruz on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, UFC on Versus: Vera vs. Jones on March 21 in Denver, Colorado, and UFC 111: St-Pierre vs. Hardy on March 27 in Newark, New Jersey.

Why does it seem that MMAFrenzy is about 3 hours behind in information compared to other sites?
The frenzy may be slightly behind on breaking stories like this, but it’s the only site I come too because I would rather have accurate information tardy than innaccurate information before it’s even true.
For a minute there I thought you were complaining about the Frenzy being 3 hours late on this announecment.
I’d glady have my updates come a tad late and be confidant in their legitimacy.
I would even challenge the idea that the frenzy is consistantly behind on updates. The news here is early and often, and almost exclusively accurate.

Charlotte’s TimeWarnerCable arena(where the Bobcats play) is free that night as well.
The Bobcats have a home game that night, so TWC Arena is out. Keeping my fingers crossed it’ll be at RBC, but I’ll be going no matter where it is.
TWC does show on their schedule that they’re open on the 31, but the Bobcats’ schedule shows a home game, I guess an oversight by the arena.
Good eye…Philly is listed on NBA.com but not the arena site….Figured it got cleared out because of CIAA. Smith center is also a possibility as it has more seats than RBC (~2k)…Haven’t checked their page yet…going to check greensboro now…
Dean Dome vs. RBC Center, I don’t think it will be decided on size of the venue. I just think that RBC is a better venue in general, and that Raleigh is the bigger market, so they would probably look at Raleigh over the Dean Dome. Also, the RBC Center is much more of a multi-use venue than the Dean Dome.
Greensboro is free and at 23,000 plus and central location would be a really good choice.
I’m thinking it would either be Fayetville again for the military, Charlotte because it’s the largest city, or Raleigh because it’s the second largest.
The Greensboro Coliseum is probably an excellent venue, and Greensboro is a “central” location, but Greensboro itself is not a large enough market. I checked the boxing commission and they haven’t given Zuffa a license yet (if they had, I would have known what city) which lines up with Junkie’s story that the UFC had not yet officially filed the request, but that NC knew they were coming. Perhaps a way for Zuffa to keep things semi-quiet until they are ready to announce it. I know some people that work at RBC Center, so I will try to find out what I can that way.
Probably wont be Fayetteville. Over half the 82nd, including myself is deployed right now. My people actually get back first week of april…. What a bummer.

Something along those lines. I doubt we’ll get credentialed, even though we probably will apply anyways. But we’ll still be there. Kinda makes me glad I’m not making the trek up to Fairfax, VA tomorrow.
