Bobby Lashley Expected to Fight Yohan Banks at “Strikeforce: Miami”
Another opening on Strikesforce’s upcoming “Miami” event has likely been filled, as Yohan Banks is expected to face heavyweight prospect and professional wrestler Bobby Lashley at the January 30 event in Sunrise, Florida, according to MMA Weekly.
Lashley (4-0) made his MMA debut in late-2008 with a first-round TKO of Joshua Franklin, then improved to 4-0 in 2009 with wins over Jason Guida, Mike Cook, and Bob Sapp.
Banks (2-1) has won both of his previous Strikeforce bouts in the promotion’s Young Gun series, which has since been re-named to Strikeforce Challengers, but hasn’t fought since a 19-second knockout of Michael Diaz in September 2008.
Strikeforce: Miami is co-headlined by Nick Diaz vs. Marius Zaromskis for the Strikeforce welterweight title and Strikeforce 145-pound women’s champ Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Marloes Coenen, and also features Robbie Lawler vs. Melvin Manhoef and Herschel Walker vs. Greg Nagy.

I think Bobby could very well be the Brock of strikeforce he big strong as an oxe like Brock but I personally think he has a better all around game than Brock. The man said he would win his first 4 fight by decision, tko, tap out he did it that to me is crazy. I would love to see him fight s couple more fights in strikeforce and then fights maybe fight Rogers then Fedor cause if he can’t beat Bobby he has no reason to fight Brock. But all in all I want to see a Brock vs Bobby super fight. You could headline it as “True WWE Heavyweight Champion”
If you think Bobby is on the same level as an MMA fighter as Brock, you need to pay closer attention to who they’ve fought and how they’ve fought. Bobby is not even close, he may get there in the future, but he is not developing his MMA skillset at the same speed that Lesnar did.
And Lashley doesn’t have the freakish level of athleticism Lesnar does for a man of his size..
agree wit u justin but he is just so powerfull hes tuff to stop but his skill level as an all around fighter needs work
yeah he had trouble with jason guida as big as he is he should take down at will
Totally off subject, but too excited to wait. UFC fight night 22 coming to North Carolina. Sweet
I’m sure Justin is just as excited as you.
On subject, I do think that Bobby does have a great future in MMA, but their are large differences in him and Lesnar besides athletisism.
I’m under the impression that Lesnar takes the sport of MMA alot more seriously than Bobby. Lesnar completely quit wrestling, his bread and butter, to take up MMA full time. He has stated many times that he wanted a step up into “REAL” comptetion to satisfy his nature. I also think that the fact that he wanted top level competion right off the bat tells me that his confidence in his training mental and physical is top notch. Bobby on the other hand is testing the water and by no means is going to dive head first into the deep end.
Bobby may develope over time but I would like to see him make a commitment and dedicate himself full time to the sport. If he looks like a world beater and crushes his next couple of opponents we may see him take a dive into the deep end by the end of ’10, sayyyy Rogers. One can only hope.
Yeah, I am excited.
Lashley said recently that he would like to fight up to 6 times this year, which would, in fact, show a commitment to the sport. His goal is to get experience, and be brought along slowly. I think he is taking the right path for the best outcomes in his MMA career, and it’s good to see that Strikeforce isn’t rushing him into the deep end.
Maybe I’m guilty of somewhat pre-judging Bobby Lashley’s in-cage work because of his in-ring work, but this past year I didn’t get the impression that Lashley was at the “6 fights per year” level of commitment and intensity.
Maybe he was injured and I missed it, maybe he had some contractual issues to work out with TNA Wrestling and/or Strikeforce, or his previous MMA promotion, but after working Bob Sapp over, the guy took 6 months off to “recover” from a 3 and a half minute fight.
Maybe Lashley needs some sort of MMA orientation, but 6 months off after like 200 seconds of work doesn’t scream “committed” to me, but hopefully I’m reading this wrong…
I think lashley is a good as lesner in strength area but hes so bulked up with mucles he cant be much of a striker as in throwing good jabs or combos like some other heavies, but like they say it only takes one to land……..my thoughts on brocks return ….i think hes tryn to get his huge look back before he shows his face in frot of cameras…hes prolly been told he shouldnt fight but that its not a life threatining thing if hes does,,,,,, problem is reports say hes lost like 30 to 40 lbs………and hes probably not gonna make an off. announcement until he gets his body looking as well as feeling like the brock of old.worst thing he could do is show up on some spike ufc show at like 225 looking weak and drawn from the sickness and rumors would get even worse then they are now.as far as brock/lashley.i would say brock probably would win because he strikes like a middleweight with speea and timing but one leg or arm lock or rear naked choke could change that in a flash as he well knows.
