A welterweight match up pitting The Ultimate Fighter alum Matt Brown against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Ricardo Almeida has been set for UFC 111 which will take place on March 27 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, according to ESPN’s MMALive.
Brown was last in action at UFC 105 in October, defeating the welterweight winner of season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter James Wilks via TKO. The victory over Wilks was Brown’s third consecutive victory since falling to Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 88 in September 2008.
Almeida will be making his welterweight debut against Brown, having fought previously at middleweight and light heavyweight. He had been scheduled to make his first drop into the 170 pound division against John Fitch at UFC 106, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw from the contest. Almeida’s last bout was a unanimous decision victory over The Ultimate Fighter season 3 winner Kendall Grove in a middle weight bout at UFC 101 in August. The victory over grove was Almeida’s second straight since losing a decision victory to Patrick Cote at UFC 86 in July 2008.
UFC 111 is expected to be headlined by a championship bout pitting Georges St. Pierre against Dan Hardy, as well as Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir in a contest for the UFC interim heavyweight title. Also expected on the card is a rematch between John Fitch and Thiago Alves.
