Josh Koscheck vs. Paul Daley In The Works for May or June
A likely matchup between welterweight contenders Josh Koscheck and Paul Daley, first reported after Saturday’s UFC 108, is closer to becoming a reality, as ESPN’s Jon Anik reports that the bout is in the works for May or June.
Daley (23-8-2) made his UFC debut in September with a first-round knockout of Martin Kampmann, and won his fourth-straight at UFC 108 with a first-round KO of Dustin Hazelett.
Koscheck (14-4) bounced back from a February upset loss to Paulo Thiago with back-to-back wins over Frank Trigg in September and Anthony Johnson in November. Kos had been slated to rematch Thiago next month at UFC 109, but was forced to withdraw with an undisclosed injury and replaced by teammate Mike Swick.
Possible events for the bout include UFC 113 on May 1 in Montreal, UFC 114 on May 29 in Las Vegas, and UFC 115 on June 12 in Vancouver.

YUSSSS! YUSSSSSSS! Wishes do come true :D
Daley by massacre!
I hate to say it Jazz, but Kos but sub. But I want to see Kos’ face get demolished!
I second that I hate KOS and I hope he gets his fake ass blonde hair knocked off..
Kos by UD unless we see improved takedown defense from Daley…
i got kos winning by ko actually….hes to athletic and good for daley to handle sorry to you guys on the daley bandwagon ;)
Well there is some good ol logical thinking right there. Koscheck, a wrestler who has only KO’d or TKO’d non-strikers is going to knock out Daley, a fight who has never been knocked unconcious by anyone. Come on man do a little thinking before wasting your time posting non-sense.
First time for everything.
And no one said it was going to be a standing ko.
Come on man, do a little thinking before wasting your time belittling others for having an opinion.
Would be a great fight. Daley has no ground skills and would be in trouble if Kos remembers he is a wrestler.
How can we actually say Daley has no ground skills. We have never seen been taken down recently. Of course Kos will be superior on the ground but Daley might be able to avoid GnP and get back to his feet. There is a good chance Kos wants to stand and bang some after the Johnson fight.
Daley was submitted by Jake Shields in October 2008 and lost a decision to Nick Thompson in February 2009 (didn’t see the fight, but I assume Thompson took him down since 22 of his 38 wins are by submission).
I hope he blows up the inside of KOS’ face like he did to McLovin. I don’t see it happening though, unfortunatly. KOS got taught a couple of lessons by guys named Alves and Paulo, making him remember he is not an elite striker. Kos has the second best shot in the WW division, and mark my words he will want to get this fight to the ground. Once the fight is on the mat I beleive that he will hook a sub or GnP Mr. Daley.
*SIgh* ok ok, you guys have a point.
Kos has learned from the beatings hes taken and will definitely take this fight to the ground. Daley imo is the perfect guy to take kos out though. It’s not like he hasnt had experience vs grapplers/wrestlers. He definitely needs to improve his takedown defense the way guys like alves and stout have. All he’ll need to do is stuff 2 in a row or maybe even 3 to force the stand up, and if that happens, it’s lights out for kos.
I don’t think that’s too far fetched either.
This is one of those fights where daley SHOULD EXPECT koscheck to go straight for the shoot the way rashad did against thiago silva. If daley isnt 100% expecting kos to shoot he can end up like sylvia vs couture where couture had him guessing the whole fight.
But although it pains me to say, kos has the advantage and can take this to a ud.
I’m still going to have faith that daley will have a great and SMART camp and come in the way alves did and knock koscheck out.
Although I would LOVE for Daley to knock him out, I agree that this has a good possibility of going to decision, with Kos grinding out a win with multiple takedowns.
2 badasses step into the octagon. This one’s tough… If Kos leaves himself open like he did against Paulo though, its lights out!!!
I don’t see daily having to much of a problem with Kos groundwise. Remember Kos has good wrestling, but horrible Ju-Jitz. When he took down sanchez right away he was swept and Sanchez had top control. So i imagine daily working on his sprawl and sweeps to get back to his feet for the knockout. Kos might be able to outbox him, but methinks that 1 or 2 solid punches from daily Kos will be K.O.d. Finch would be a better test for daily prior to GSP. but will see come april may or june.
Im going to have to disagree with you Brohym (Corey is my Twin). Though Kos may have bad jitzu i cant see Daley avoiding the takedown and handling the top game of Kos. Remember that Sanchez is Black belt in Jitz and Daley is not. All Kos has to do is remember that this is mma and not K1 and he should have the win. I mean Daley has the punchers chance but, Kos has way more tools in his belt. I can see why Daley wanted the Alves fight instead, Alves fits better into Daleys style
I think a loss for Daley would give him that none-too-gentle shove onto the path of well-roundedness that leads to gold…
Jazz – Alves did not KO Koscheck.. he won by decision… KOS lost 4 times, twice by Decision (Alves & GSP) then tko by thiago – which was BS in my opinion and submission by Fickett..
JJ – dont jump on someones opinion and say its nonsense.. ANYONE can get KO’d in this game.. and with KOS’s striking improving.. KO’ing Daley is EASILY doable… will it happen? I doubt it because I think Kos will want to take it to the ground, but to say its nonsense to think he can KO Daley is ignorance…
IMO – Daley is a tad overrated… he beat a struggling Kampman… mainly because I think he overlooked Daley and got caught… granted he took that fight on short notice too, but he is a professional.. should have been prepared…
But when you take a look at who he has beat and who he lost to.. its not that impressive… I remember watching the fight on MFC where he lost to Thompson… and saw him lose to Shields, but he looked good until he was taken down…. besides beating Kampman and Hazlett the only noteables he beat are: John Alessio, Sam “Klepto” Morgan, Mark Weir, Bang Ludwig and Xavier Foupa-Pokam – do any of those names impress you?!!? So, I think this is an easy win for KOS…
KOS fights the upper echelon… and keeps winning.. he should be fighting GSP and not Hardy…and again.. its just my opinion..
I heard daley took the thompson fight on short notice aswell and kos got slapped silly by thiago in england that was not bs at all you sound like a kos fan. Kos has lost to lesser fighters than sheilds and am sure daley has improved since that fight he beat hazelett faster than kos and all kos has is his over hand right he has no chance unless he wrestles.
Yes, I am a KOS fan.. but regardless… it was a bad stoppage… once thiago hit kos.. yes.. he was out… but when he hit the ground, he came to…and I will say that about any fighter or fight if I think it was stopped early…. and KOS lost to 2 bad fighters in Fickett and Thiago.. he was dominating Fickett until he got dumb and caught.. and Thiago.. not sure what his deal was… but he also fought the top 2 guys at 170 in GSP and Alves.. and neither could finish KOS.. so.. I think he will beat Daley.. and then get another shot at GSP.. give him a decent fight but lose by decision again..
all im going to say is, koschecks cockiness is always going to get him in trouble… he wanted to stand with johnson but once he started getting hit he realized that he didnt want that… im just going to throw this out there and say that daley has a heavier hand and is a better striker than johnson and if one of the punches that johnson landed and daley can land will knock josh out, if that made sense
Rumble would knock Daley out for sure. He is a beast on the feet and would tear anyone at 170 up. Kos should be fighting GSP and Rumble should be fighting Daley….that would be fireworks. I’m happy Koscheck got this fight though and I’m rooting for him.
daley has fought smart in the ufc, he knows people dont want to strike with him, hes patient and i think his ground game is improving, hes never been knocked out, and is a brilliant striker, the fights ur bringing up are old, yes kos has an advantage on the ground but i dont think hell finish him there, i dont think hell take daley down, i think daley will fight smart and knock him out and shock the world, btw i predicted him to beat kampmann and every1 thought i was crazy, hes determined and smart, dont rule him out
English style kick boxers tend to have very good left hooks and upper cuts(see kampmann fight and hazelett and see hardy v swick, davis and markham), that is what paolo thiago caught Kos with, he has a suspect chin and against a powerhouse like Daley he could be in for a tough fight. Saying that I expect him to take Daley down and mess his face up pretty bad, Daley has talked some **** about the AKA fighters before and I expect Kos to avenge them.
One tKO makes a chin suspect?
That’s like me saying one irresponsible comment makes someone’s intelligence suspect. And I wait two or three comments for that.
gsp does not finish many fighters he grinds decisions i think daley and hardy stand more chance of knocking gsp out than kos has of out wrestlin gsp. People say hardy does not deserve a shot but in time hardy and maybe semtex will face kos fitch swick alves but kos will not face fitch or swick and both of them are contenders. People say hardy and semtex talk crap but they are respectfull after fights and hardy has a joke before the fight like with swick but he laughed with swick they both took the trophy thing as a joke it was fun i like swick and fitch but kos is the one that is a tool he talks **** and acts like a windowlicker he is like a spoilt bastard child saying bad things about hardy because the ufc gave him a shot talkin **** about hughes now he is past it kos always acts a dick and is disrespectful to his fans after fights. How can you even like kos and when hardy had that spat with davis it was true he is a fake irish man he needed to know.
Do you look up stats before you say anything? Dont get me wrong – I am not a walking Harddrive of memory here either, so when I read your comment about GSP not finishing many people, I was pretty sure you were wrong… so I had to look it up before I said anything.. sure enough… he has 21 fights… and went to decision 6.. SIX times…so if you do the math, GSP FINISHES fights 71% of the time.. so yea… which proves my point on so many levels.. why 1.. I think GSP is the best lb for lb fighter… and 2.. why I believe KOS is a lot better than people think… with each fight, his striking improves… and he already is a dominate wrestler.. so he will dominate Daley… and give GSP a run for his money.. probably making GSP go to a decision for the 7th time in his career..
Kos will take Daley down and Ground & Pound him out like it’s 1782 all over again.
