UFC 194 is just a few weeks away, and as the bout nears, Conor McGregor isn’t backing off his prediction that he’ll take out Jose Aldo in the opening round…yes, the consensus greatest featherweight ever, and the only world featherweight champ the UFC has ever had.
Now, there’s no question that McGregor has impressed and then some, since he arrived in the UFC. After all, he has gone 6-0 in the Octagon, has finished five fighters during that time, and is in the interim featherweight champ.
But, others have argued that Mr. Chad Mendes exposed some deficiencies in McGregor’s game, and that the latter benefited from the fact that “Money” took the bout on short notice. So, not everyone is completely on board with McGregor’s rhetoric, that he’s the planet’s best 145ér.
“I’m hungry right now,” said McGregor. “I’m prepared to kill this man and unify the belts and then what will they have to say? What will they have to say after Jose falls? Jose is the No. 1 pound-for-pound. We’ll see what they have to say after Jose crumbles inside one.”
There you have it, and if McGregor does take Aldo out in the opening frame, or finishes him period, of course, he’ll have less doubters. But really, until he takes on another top tier wrestler, who’s had a full camp, some observers won’t be completely convinced. In other words, he’ll likely need to defeat Frankie Edgar, or Mendes again.
UFC 194 will go down on December 12th in Las Vegas, Nevada.
