As you certainly know, Rousey took out Correia with strikes in just 34 second this past August, and electrified the MMA world in doing so. Nearly everyone expected Rousey to win, but heading into the bout, some argued Correia would have the edge standing.
Well, following Rousey’s one sided loss to vaunted striker Holly Holm last weekend, Correia recently spoke to Tatame. While doing so, the Brazilain reportedly opined this (translation via Bloody Elbow.com):
“…Ronda always showed the dominance of an unbeatable woman. Then she showed we were wrong, everyone can lose and have weak spots. You just have to be mentally prepared to do it. You have to have a good game plan and Holly did. She used her best asset, her boxing, and she moved very well.
“I think Ronda was impressed with what they said about her. They labeled her as a great striker, better than normal. Which she is not, in my opinion. Ronda is a beginner. They put her on the cover of ‘Ring’ magazine prematurely. Her coach made her believe she was the best boxer in the world, but she never had any experience boxing.”
Now, chances are Rousey supporters will scoff at these comments, considering who they’re coming from, and because of what went down at UFC 190. Even folks who believe Rousey needs to put in some serious work before she faces Holm again, likely don’t think “Rowdy” is a beginner when it comes to striking.
Correia, meanwhile, hasn’t been booked for her next fight following her memorable defeat to the former champ. “Pitbull” had won nine straight before she faced Rousey and is ranked #8 at 135.
