A lot of people were surprised by what went down at the UFC 193 weigh-ins, and according to Holly Holm’s father, it was because Ronda Rousey was terrified of the new bantamweight champ.
Leading up to UFC 193, Holm and Rousey largely had positive things to say about each other. So, when Rousey stormed towards Holm at the weigh-ins, it caught quite a few people off guard. Holm didn’t back off, however, pushed Rousey back with her fist, and the star was outraged by the move. So much so, she accused the challenger of being fake in the weeks prior to the bout.
Well, following Holm’s KO win over Rousey on Saturday, the new champ’s father spoke to Submission Radio. When Roger Holm was asked about Rousey’s reaction to the scuffle, he said this (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):
“That was Ronda scared to death,” Roger Holm said. “She knew something like this was down the pipe. Ronda was trying to get her confidence back. Holly exposed Ronda, just in the realness of a fighter. And I think that that was tip, like – Holly started winning fans over here just because they know she’s just a down, good to earth person. And maybe that was Ronda’s way of trying to paint Holly in a light that gave her confidence, but it didn’t work.”
Now, only Rousey, and perhaps somein her inner circle, really know if she was intimidated by Holm. Based off what she’s said in the past, Rousey certainly never hinted she was scared of the decorated boxer, but that’s expected.
Once Holm cracked Rousey with some hard shots, and continued to avoid her attacks, however, the Judoka appeared to be mentally shaken. If and when the rematch happens, it’s going to be pretty, pretty interesting.
