It hasn’t taken the UFC long to find a new opponent for Tony Ferguson, as the promotion has announced that Edson Barboza will fight him on December 11th, after the withdrawal of Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov recently confirmed that he’s gone down with a broken rib, and will not be able to compete at the TUF 22 Finale as a result. MMA Fighting.com reported that Barboza was being considered as a replacement, and now the UFC has made it official.
Barboza (16-3) heads into the bout having gone 3-2 in his last 5 outings, and most recently he outgunned Paul Felder for the decision win.
Ferguson (19-3), on the other hand, has won six in a row and earned a UD victory over Josh Thomson in his last scrap.
So, that’s an interesting fight no question. Stylistically speaking, Barboza is a much, much, different opponent than the grappling titan, Nurmagomedov.
The TUF 22 Finale will be hosted by The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Nevada.
