Khabib Nurmagomedov’s title shot run has been dealt another serious blow, and as a result, the lightweight says he’s not certain about whether he’ll return to the cage.

Nurmagomedov was scheduled to fight Tony Ferguson on December 11th at the TUF 22 Finale, which would have marked the first time he had fought since last April. At UFC on FOX 11, Nurmagomedov worked his way to a decision over Rafael dos Anjos, who has since gone on to become lightweight champ. “The Eagle”, however, has been sidelined as a result of two knee injuries.

Well, the ridiculously talented grappler recently announced the following on Instagram:

Now obviously, this is a very unfortunate setback for Nurmagomedov, considering how long he’s been sidelined due to injury. Hopefully, however, the lightweight comes around after the initial disappointment of this wears off, and continues to fight.

After all, Nurmagomedov is only 27 years-old, he’s 22-0 as a pro, and he’s one of the best 155’ers on the planet. If he had gone down with another knee injury, then certainly things would be looking a lot more grim.

Meanwhile, the UFC hasn’t made any announcement regarding this situation. In a report from MMA Fighting.com, sources are cited as saying that the UFC is looking at Edson Barboza as a replacement. You could certainly do a lot worse than Barboza-Ferguson no?
