Chris Weidman has said before that he wants to throw down with Jon Jones, and now the middleweight champ has outlined a timeline for the scrap..
As you know, Weidman is scheduled to defend the middleweight title against Luke Rockhold on December 12th. That same night, Yoel Romero will battle fellow middleweight contender, “Jacare” Souza.
Jones, meanwhile, doesn’t have his next bout booked. But, after he was recently reinstated by the UFC, the belief is he’ll take on light-heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier in early 2016.
Weidman held a a Q&A session, and while doing so, “The All American” said this (quotes via FOX Sports.com):
“I’ve got to focus on Luke, and the winner of ‘Jacare’ [vs.] Romero,” Weidman said.
“And then after that, we’ll start talking about Jon Jones, and 205, and anyone who is good, up there.”
Now that’s a fight a lot of folks would like to see, but, obviously Rockhold and Cormier have a thing or two to say about it. In terms of his UFC 194 scrap with Rockhold, Weidman made this prediction on the outcome:
“I’m thinking, first, second, or third,” Weidman said
“I’m thinking that in the first three rounds, it will be finished.”
It will be interesting to see what Rockhold has to say about Weidman’s call. Rockhold, on the other hand, has argued he’ll be able to handle the champ just fine.
UFC 194 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
