“Hendo” will take on Belfort at UFC Fight Night 77 on November 7th, and after their rubber match, he’ll have two fights left on his contract. Recently the 45 year-old wonder spoke with AXS TV’s Ron Kruck, and he was asked about who he’d like to face moving forward. Here is some of what Henderson had to say (quotes via MMA Mania.com):
“Some fans have been expressing interest in me fighting Anderson Silva. I know he’s not the champ right now. That’s a fight that people always wanted to see happen again,: Henderson said. “The fight with Jon Jones never happened. Who knows what he’s going to be doing? He’s a tough fighter. He was a guy I was ready to fight more than any other. “
Interesting. As you likely recall, Jones was scheduled to fight Henderson back in 2012, but an injury forced the latter to withdraw. The event ended up getting cancelled, and Henderson proceeded to lose three in a row and dropped out of the title shot race.
So, really, the chances of Henderson facing Jones at this juncture are slim to none. Jones is expected to fight Daniel Cormier in early 2016, and Henderson isn’t even a ranked 205’er.
Now, as far as a rematch with Anderson Silva, however, this could happen. Silva submitted Henderson way back in 2008, and a rematch between the two would likely move some tickets.
Sure, it’s probably not a fight the UFC is really looking at currently, but if Henderson takes out Belfort at UFC FN 77, you never know.
