Recently it was announced that Sage Northcutt is headed to Tristar to do some training, and the lightweight prospect is already drawing rave reviews from the gym’s head coach.
Northcutt made his UFC debut at UFC 192 on October 3rd, and lived up to the buzz that followed him, by taking out Francisco Rivera. The 19 year-old has been coached by his father throughout his martial arts life, but Northcutt has decided to give Tristar a try.
Well, recently the Montreal gym’s head coach, Firas Zahabi, appeared on “The MMA Hour”. While discussing Northcutt, here is some of what the renowned coach had to say (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):
“I love the kid,” Zahabi said. “The kid’s amazing. He’s super-amazing. He’s amazing in the practice room, he’s amazing outside. He’s super-hard working, he’s friendly, I couldn’t ask for more.”
“I think he reminds me a lot of Georges,” Zahabi added later. “Georges is that type of guy — positive, good attitude, eager to train, always happy to go to practice. He’s always positive. I love it. That is the first step in being successful, having a good attitude.”
That’s some high praise no? While some might want to scoff at Zahabi’s comments, it’s important to remember that he oversees one of the most famous gyms on the planet. So, if anyone is a good gauge of talent and abilities, it would be Zahabi.
If you missed it, recently the UFC announced that Northcutt will take on Cody Pfister at UFC Fight Night 80 on December 10th. That card will go down in Las Vegas, Nevada.
