Floyd Mayweather initially claimed he wasn’t aware of who Ronda Rousey is, but another of boxing’s stars, Gennady Golovkin, is obviously up to speed on the UFC’s bantamweight champ.
Now if you’re combat sports diet includes just MMA, then you might not be aware of who Golovkin is. Well, Mr. Golovkin is the IBO and WBA (super) middleweight champ, who has gone 33-0 to date. He’s also one of boxing’s most feared fighters, due to the fact 30 of his wins have come via knockout.
Well, Golovkin is booked to fight another noted slugger in David Lemieux, tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden. Rousey has made it be known that she’s a big GGG fan (that’s his nickname), and recently the Kazakstahn fighter had this to say about “Rowdy” (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I know her; we’ve been training maybe two, three times together in boxing gym,” Golovkin said. “She is nice lady. She’s great athlete. She’s the best female athlete in the world. She’s a beautiful lady and beautiful person. I like her. She’s tough.”
Golovkin was also asked to weigh in on the pugilistic skills of Rousey, which she has demonstarted in recent months, have reached a whole new level. Golovkin stated:
“She’s good. Beautiful performance. She has great technical (skills).”
Yup. No one was able to hang with Rousey on the ground as he rose through the ranks to become champ, and more recently, the opposition hasn’t been able to deal with her striking either. Thus, this is why it’s going to be really interesting to see how Holly Holm does against Rousey at UFC 193. Holm, as you likely know, is a ridiculously decorated boxer.
That fight will take place November 15th in Melbourne, Australia.
