Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones Likely for First UFC Event on Versus on March 21 in Denver
A light heavyweight matchup between Brandon Vera and Jon Jones, reported earlier Wednesday as the possible main event for UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31, is now expected to headline the UFC’s first event on Versus on March 21 in Denver, Colorado, according to Sherdog.
If confirmed, the card would take place 6 days before UFC 111 on March 27 in New Jersey and 10 days ahead of the Spike TV-televised UFN 21 event, which serves as the lead-in for the debut of The Ultimate Fighter 11.
Jones (9-1) began his UFC career with wins over Andre Gusmao, Stephan Bonnar, and Jake O’Brien, and nearly finished Matt Hamill with first-round ground and pound earlier this month, but was handed his first loss by disqualification after landing several illegal elbows, though “Bones” is appealing the result.
Vera (11-4) rebounded from a 1-3 stretch by winning back-to-back fights over Mike Patt and Krzysztof Soszynski in 2009, but suffered a unanimous decision loss to Randy Couture in November at UFC 105.

i think if jones beats him bad he will be cut but i dont see that happening.. this should be a pretty competitive match.. i could see a split decision happening

I Love this. We’re getting more and more MMA each year. Keep Growing Zuffa, i would love to have a MMA event every weekend and with this Versus Deal and Comcast purchasing NBC maybe we can get events Every weekend for Free. I cant wait man this sport will be Bigger than Soccer (or futball as most of the world knows that sport as)
every weekend? thats kinda insane and I’m pretty sure they would be taking people off the streets to fight especially since most people take weeks/months to prepare for a single fight.
I agree with the sentiments that this is a terrible match up for Vera. Jones absolutely destroyed Hamill and will now make a big step toward the top of the LHW division. I think a LHW match up of Jones versus A. Silva would be pretty sick…
After this fight mr and mrs Vera will be fighting on the same card.

I see Vera getting thrown around like a ragdoll possibly over the top of the ring but hope not cause thats another DQ.

vera is a very accomplished greco-roman wrestler, so won’t get thrown around, if Randy was struggling to get him down then I doubt Jones will be able to throw vera ‘around like a ragdoll’
I reckon it will be a fight along the same veign as the hammill fight knock him down with strikes, pass guard, mount and have some fun.
Iv only seen bones fight once against Hamill , but man did he look scary……..i think this guy will make some serious noise in the lhw division…..he’s violent, i say he destroys Vera
and after his destuction of Vera, I think he starts fighting the elite fighters of the lhw div…….I really think this guy is for real……….very creative,………….long reach…..powerful and fast……anyone else think this guys as good as i do?..or am i missing something..(i have only seen one of his fights)…..thoughts…
