Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Forced Out of UFC 109 Fight With Brandon Vera
A broken ankle has forced light heavyweight contender Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to withdraw from his UFC 109 main card matchup against Brandon Vera, according to Sherdog.
Vera is expected to remain on the February 6 card in Las Vegas and the UFC is currently seeking a replacement opponent.
A timeline for a return to the Octagon was not revealed for Nogueira (18-3), the twin brother of heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira who made his UFC debut in November with a first-round knockout of Luis Cane, his sixth-straight victory.
Vera (11-4) rebounded from a 1-3 stretch by winning back-to-back fights over Mike Patt and Krzysztof Soszynski in 2009, but suffered a unanimous decision loss to Randy Couture in November at UFC 105.
“UFC 109: Relentless” is headlined by Randy Couture vs. Mark Coleman and also includes Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago, Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen, and Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg.

Id say send in Franklin or Griffin, but what im hearin is that they might be fighting each other next spring/summer next year.
If thats the case then one of the only available LHW that could hang with Lil Nog would be Jones. That would be a pretty fast turnaround for him though.
It seems like everyone else is committed to another fight unless they were to give him someone like Stann or Eliot Marshal.
Maybe they expedite Rampage’s return…

I know. Maybe Alexander Gustafson… but he would be in trouble against Vera. Kyle Kingsbury, and Eric Schafer aren’t scheduled to fight any time soon. Wow, everyone that would be an interesting fight with Vera is either booked or hurt, or not in shape.

Vera, your time is done. The UFC has invested so much time and money into your boring, one dimensional, result lacking, unable to finish fights, TRX loving @$$. You have nowhere to go in either weight class and when is the last time one of your fights wasn’t a snoozer and didn’t go to a decision on the judges score cards? Who have you beat really?
