Jacob VolkmannJacob Volkmann will replace an injured Rory Markham and take on fellow welterweight Martin Kampmann at UFC 108, according to Sherdog, while newcomer John Gunderson will fight Rafaello Oliveira on the preliminary card of the January 2 event in Las Vegas, MMA Weekly reports.

Injuries have plagued the UFC 108 lineup, with proposed headliners Anderson Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez all falling through, while many other fighters from the event have also gone down with injuries, forcing the UFC to piece together matchups to fill the card.

UFC 108 is headlined by Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva and also includes Paul Daley vs. Dustin Hazelett, Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout, Jim Miller vs. Sean Sherk, and Junior Dos Santos vs. Gilbert Yvel.

Joe Lauzon vs. Sam Stout should be a great fight.

I really liked Christmas against Thiago, enough I thought at a couple times he was going to win the fight.

Tough fight for him against Kampmann though. I’m guessing if he loses he’ll be back in the minors, but if he takes it to the mat early we might see a major upset.

Ya I agree on both accounts. The guy impressed me for sure considering it was his UFC debut, but Kampmna is a big guy with a lot more tools then Volkman. I think Martin could look to keep this one standing and look to expose the obvious whole in Jacobs game. Even if it hits the mat I think Kampman will do fine

      Kampman KO rnd 1

Volkmann is taking the fight on short notice. He likely won’t be cut if he loses. As I’ve said countless times, for all his faults Dana remembers those who bail him out.

      • Eldiablo says:

Leites was cut from the UFC after he took the Sakara fight on shot notice, but Thales didn’t exactly impress in his previous bout…..

However, if Volkmann impresses again against another top WW Dana might be a little more forgiving this time.
