Grant, Johnson, Belcher, and Gouveia Earn UFC 107 Bonuses

TJ Grant, DeMarques Johnson, Alan Belcher, and Wilson Gouveia each earned $65,000 “fight night” bonuses for their performances on Saturday at UFC 107, which took place at the Fedex Forum in Memphis, Tennessee and aired live on pay-per-view.
Grant came back from an earlier hard shot to knock out Kevin Burns in the first round of their event opening bout to take the “Knockout of the Night” bonus for the event.
Johnson survived an early submission attempt by Edgar Garcia to secure a fight ending triangle in the final minute of the first round of their preliminary contest, which earned him “Submission of the Night” honors.
Belcher and Gouveia battled for a short 3:03 before Belcher put Gouveia down and forced the referee to call a halt to their bout. Though the fight wasn’t very long, the toe-to-toe action was enough to earn both men “Fight of the Night” recognition and bonuses.

Such a good thing these bonuses are. Especially when the lower tier fighters earn them.
amen to that.
Yeah I agree its nice when these undercard fighters stack up a big bonus.
That said id have given Mir Sub of the night.
Except that because Kongo went to sleep, it was a TKO, not a submission.
That makes sense. Though I always think of a submission of the night bonus as being a reward for technical bjj skill. I mean a TKO is not really a KO either so I think choking someone out should make them eligible for submission.
That’s just my view but it makes sense that if the fight is stoped due to stikes you could win KO of the night and if it ends to a choke or arm bar etc it should be submission.
You need to stick with one name. -Justin H
No its still a submission even though congo went to sleep
That was sick what Mir did to Kongo, but I gotta agree it was a TKO and not a sub. Sucks that all this trash talk between the two, Kongo did not tap, but he’ll still have a submission loss on his record.
Maybe introduce another form of winning, the submission knock out?
technical submission to refer to someone who gets choked unconcious
Actually, It was a submission….it was NOT a tapout. They even announced it as a win “via submission”…normally they announce it as a win “via tap out due to …..” I give kudos to Kongo for not tapping out…he didnt want to give that to Mir! lol Thank God Mir didnt do an armbar….imagine if Kongo wasnt willing to tap…..it would have snapped for sure!
I would have given fight of the night to Buentello and Struve over Belcher and Gouveia. Just my opinion.
I 2nd that figs.
The punch Buentello landed on Struve after Struve attemptin that weak sauce flying knee was worth a $20,000 bonus alone.
*attempted
Did you notice that both fighters were in the air when he Buentello hit him? B had to jump to time it properly.
Wicked submission by Demarcus, but why was he wearing a coconut husk on his head?
indeed figs. didn’t see your post when I suggest the same thing this morning.
Pretty bad knock out of the night wasn’t shown on PPV UFC is cheaping out bigtime on prelims..more commercials the prelims just crap!!!
Yeah i think the UFC should start showing all the prelims on Spike. I know the sport is huge right now but this gives even the lesser tier fighters a chance to be in the spotlight, not to mention the people who pay $50-%60 a ppv to get their moneys worth. And as a person who was in Memphis to see the fight the prelims were just as entertaining as the main card.
MIR should of gotten submission of the night. Kongo would of tapped if he could, but his hands were trapped. TKO or not a choke is a submission move and it PUT THE GUY TO SLEEP, not to mention it only took 1:12. FRANK MIR IS THE MAN
Anyone else think the Struve/Buentello fight should have gotten fight of the night? Round 1 was a clinic in how not to get submitted and the next two they were just swining and kicking for the fences. And if any fight should have ended in a draw, this was the one.
Yeah, I could see Struve/Buentello getting FOTN over Belcher/Gouveia.
