Just like when Jones fought Alexander Gustafsson in 2013, Cormier narrowly got by “The Mauler” on Saturday. Cormier took some heavy shots during the scrap, but stuck with it, and out scored Gustafsson for the split decision win.
Well, after the ridiculously, entertaining fight, Jones posted the following comment–and then deleted it (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“You showed some heart tonight, DC,”
That he did, and if you’re surprised to hear Jones praising Cormier, you’re not the only one.
As you know, Jones and Cormier threw down this past January, in what was one of the most highly anticipated fights in recent years. Jones won the fight via unanimous decision.
“Bones” was eventually stripped of the 205 title, following his arrest in April, but now it looks like he could be back in 2016. At least, that’s the consensus. Neither Jones or the UFC, however, has said what the plan is. Case in point, Jones also reportedly said on Instagram “I think I miss it. I don’t know.”
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens. Even if Jones’ return is farther away than people think, there’s always Ryan Bader. “Darth” scored an impressive win over Rashad Evans last night, and also has a big beef with Cormier.
