Light heavyweight striker Houston Alexander has been released by the UFC following his loss to Kimbo Slice at Saturday’s The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale, UFC President Dana White confirmed on Thursday.
Alexander (9-5) began his UFC career in 2007 with back-to-back first-round knockouts of Keith Jardine and Alessio Sakara, but next dropped three-straight to Thiago Silva, James Irvin, and Eric Schafer. After picking up a win over Sherman Pendergarst outside the UFC in September, Alexander dropped a unanimous decision to Slice and was ultimately released after losing his fourth-straight inside the Octagon.
“The Assassin” ends his UFC career with a 2-4 record.

Damn would have liked to seen Matt Hammil fight H. Alexander.. that way Matt could get a win.. rofl.. or maybe a B. Vera..
Dana has enforced a new rule in the UFC.
if kimbo beats you, then your cut. lol
and if kimbo loose, he will be promoted to higher level in UFC.
I wouldn’t mind if he would fight like a champ and loose to Kimbo. The size was totally uncomparable but “hey u gotta give a good fight”.
The reason alexander got cut is he lost his last 4 fights in a row in a rather ****ty fashion and put on a very boring job against slice. If he would have gave slice a hell of a fight, even if he still lost but showed he’s still explosive and an entertaining fighter he wouldnt have been booted. If kimbo loses he wont get cut because he’s exciting, people like to see him fight and more then likely even if he gets beat he goes down swinging. And take my word for it..if kimbo showed this much improvement only training 2 months with american top team then dana and UFC would be stupid not to keep him around.
It’s about time! I’m a big Houston fan but that ish was getting uncomfortable to watch. IMO The reason he loses fights at this level is becuase he doesn’t train at a top level. He needs to leave Nebraska and go to a high level gym to train.
I’m a little surprised, I thought they would have given him one more considering Kimbo vs Alexander drew so many viewers …… I’m sure Alexander will always have a place in the UFC if he racks up a couple wins outside…. I believe he also helped them out with Nebraska so they’ll help him where they can.
He was cut because he’s a mediocre stand up guy who turns into a turtle on the ground. Kimbo manhandled him on the ground. That isn’t a mis-type. Kimbo absolutely manhandled him on the ground.
Combine that with the Benny Hill jogging in circles and you have a guy who needed to be cut because, in a nutshell, he’s just not that good.
Can’t disagree with a thing you said…..
Those 2 wins over Jardine and Sakara created almost a Tyson or Tank Abbott type mystique about him and even though he isn’t very good, people still hope to see that vicious attack which is something you don’t necessarily see too often these days in MMA.
Same thing with Baroni, he’s obviously a little more well rounded but its the same story. Viscious attackers/heavy hitters will always be a draw because even if its 1 times out of 10, fans want to feel the high of witnessing a mawling.
Not sure how this is relevant but i’m still submitting it….
Yup, I could see this coming from a mile away. Maybe (but not likely) if he didn’t prance around the ring the whole night and just layed it all out there and tried to make it an interesting fight things could have worked out.
Yea Alexander sucks and after his performance with kimbo he needs to get kicked out i was expecting a brawl and alexander ran like a chump
You are so right JaQuan. That fight sucked.
Holy Crap, I never saw this coming!! (sarcasm) Ok, maybe Alexander should switch camps like someone else said. Don’t know if they train or a high level or whatever, but they obviously don’t train ground game. Dude doesn’t deserve another chance in the UFC until he develops some ground game.
its cause he fought like a p word man. wtf was up with those leg kicks and circling. Its a good plan, but no one wants to see that…
I will always support Houston, he signed an autograph for me and the dude is just a class act and i’ll never forget the beatdown he gave Jardine, good luck to Houston on his future endevours, good luck dude whether or not you lived up to the hype you still provided the most memorable beat down in UFC and MMA History when you laid out Jardine, good luck Houston Alexander, i look forward to watching you fight again.
Yes it wasn’t exciting but it was effective in a sense. One more round and Kimbo’s leg would have crumbled. I remember another fight this style worked in when Marcus Huaas(sp?) Destroyed Paul Valerns legs. I don’t think it was his style that was the problem as to the little aggression he showed in this fight.

Thanx been awhile :)
Yea,i guess it’s pretty bad when you make kimbo look like a gracie.I can’t think of to many HW or LHW that kimbo would of controled like that. Not to take to much from kimbo he clearly has improved, but houston looked like he’s never even trained on the ground.
I was impressed by Kimbo on the ground a bit, especially having witnessed his impression of a turtle on its back before. And the slam he had was most impressive of all. If he stays at ATT, he could be something entertaining.
Would Houston still be in the UFC if he went out there and brawled…. probably.
Would his career last as long and health and wellness last as long… no.
I don’t think his game plan was all that bad. He lost that fight because he winded. He had kimbo beat when he outside leg kicked him and dropped him. Kimbo had a look of quit in his eyes in that moment and if houston would have jumped on him I think it would have been over. Oh well good luck Houston.
well good luck houston, i think it is crap he was cut after a catchweight fight, but if he did not rack up all of those losses before this fight he would of not been in this predicament.
Hears kimbo wonts t take up boxin cos his bad knee an think Dana still not big fan of kimbo
He needed to get cut badly. He had punching power and thats about it. Maybe boxing would have been a better match for him, I mean why even bother with MMA when you are so one dimensional? He wasn’t just bad at anything related to ground game (takedowns and what not) , he was down right horrible…
