UFC FN 75: Main Card Play-By-Play And Results

So, the prelim fights are all in the book in Saitama, Japan, so let’s move to the main card.

In the headliner, Josh Barnett will take on fellow heavyweight contender, Roy Nelson.

Mizuto Hirota vs. Teruto Ishihara

Round 1: Ishihara doesn’t touch gloves and comes out with a kick to the body. How about that? Hirota storms in with a flurry. Ishihara is firing back with punches and kicks. Nice leg kick from Hirota. Ishihara comes in with a left and Hirota stumbles to the mat. They’re back on their feet. Ishihara asked for a moment but Hirota doesn’t oblige. Payback. Both featherweights are throwing big punches. Ishihara lands a couple of hard lefts. Hirota fires a head kick that misses. Hirota charges in but eats a left. Hirota finds a home for his left. Wow. Hirota plants a right but takes a counter and hits the floor. Round ends.

Round 2: Now Hirota refuses to touch gloves. Ishihara lands a nice jab. Oh. Big left from Ishihara sends Hirota briefly to the floor again. Hirota seems fine. Another left from Ishihara. Hirota flurries in. Great action. Hirota clips Ishihara with a right but he’s okay. Ishihara is starting to slow down. Hirota takes Ishihara down but he gets back up. Hirota comes with a nice combo. He does so again. Wow. Great exchange along the cage. Round ends.

Round 3: Hirota gets drilled with a left and hits the deck. Wow. He’s back up. Crazy. Hirota eats another left but keeps coming. Such a good fight. Hirota lands a right. Hirota pushes to the cage and fires off some shots in the clinch. Hirota gets a TD. Ishihara takes some punches but gets back to his feet. Hirota is looking for another takedown. They break and fire off some punches. Hirota takes another left. The war comes to an end. Fantastic bout.

Mizuto Hirota vs. Teruto Ishihara declared a draw (29-28, 28-29, 29-29)

Katsunori Kikuno vs. Diego Brandao

Round 1: Wow. Brandao decks Kikuno seconds into the bout with a booming right hand. Kikuno tries getting back to his feet but takes several more shots. That’s a wrap.

Takeya Mizugaki vs. George Roop

Round 1: Both guys fire some hard shots in the pocket. Mizugaki flurries in. Roop pushes him to the cage. They break. Mizugaki lands a hard left to the body. Latter plants another right. Roop pushes Mizugaki to the cage. They break and then Roop gets tagged as he charges in. Mizugaki continues to get the better of the exchanges. Round ends.

Round 2: Roop gets tagged with a nice overhand right from Mizugaki not long in. Roop pushes him to the cage. They break, and again, Mizugaki outguns Roop and pushes the action to the fence. Roop goes for a kick but stumbles to the floor. Actions back up. Mizugaki’s boxing is still winning out.

Round 3: Roop pushes Mizugaki to the cage again. Now Roop looks for a double but can’t get it. Mizugaki reverses. Roop comes in with a flying knee and nearly gets blasted with a right. Roop clinches up again. Mizugaki works out and plants a left. Another left from Mizugaki. Latter with a nice knee to the head from the clinch. Roop picks up the pace but it’s probably too little, too late.

Kyoji Horiguchi vs. Chico Camus

Round 1: This should be a good one. Horiguchi is doing his usual–exploding in with big shots. Camus is winging counters. Horiguchi changes levels but can’t get the TD. Horiguchi spins with a kick but misses. Camus clinches up. Horiguchi breaks free. Camus plants a right. Another from Camus. Kick attempt from Horiguchi. Latter digs to the body. Camus is doing a nice job of countering. Round ends.

Round 2: Horiguchi comes out chucking bombs and clips Camus. Latter is cut by right eye but appears to be okay. Horiguchi with a combo. Horiguchi with a stinging jab. Camus continues to move forward. Horiguchi ducks under and nearly spills to the mat. Horiguchi fires an uppercut that just misses. Camus plants a right. Horiguchi with a knee to the body. Horiguchi is bleeding from the nose. Camus eats a big left. Round ends.

Round 3: Camus likely needs a finish to score a W. Camus is attempting to pressure but Horiguchi’s movement is still presenting problems. Horiguchi with a left. Camus just can’t land the big shot that he needs. Latter does land a nice right not long after that’s written…but not a hard blow. Horiguchi with another knee to the body. Horiguchi throws a high kick of the clinch. Both guys fire hard shots before the bout ends. Entertaining scrap. Impressive performance for Horiguchi.

Kyoji Horiguchi def. Chico Camus via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Gegard Mousasi vs. Uriah Hall 

Round 1: Mousasi is pressuring and quickly takes Hall to the mat. Couple lefts from Mousasi. Latter passes into half guard. Now he passes. Mousasi goes for mount and almost loses top position. Mousasi passes into half guard again and briefly looks for a side choke. Mousasi takes mount but Hall makes him scramble out by going for a leg lock. Mousasi passes again but Hall is countering with a Kimura. Wow. Now Hall rolls into an armbar but Mousasi defends. Latter passes into mount again. Hall gives up his back. Mousasis sinks in a RNC but Hall defends. Round ends. Big round for Mousasi.

Round 2: Hall crushes Mousasi with a spinning kick to the head. Mousasi’s dazed and a flying knee from Hall puts him on the deck. Crazy. Mousasi is trying to recover but Hall swarms in. Refs stops the fight. Mousasi protests stoppage. What a finish for Hall. That was unbelievable. Wow.

Josh Barnett vs. Roy Nelson 

Round 1: Barnett flicks a couple of jabs. Nelson fires a right. Barnett goes high with a kick and Nelson counters with a TD. Nelson is on top in half guard. Ref stands them up. Barnett comes with a knee. Barnett clinches up and chucks in some hard knees. Hard kick to the body from Barnett. Another knee from “The Warmaster”. Nelson pushes Barnett to the cage. Nelson trips Barnett to the floor. Nicely done. Nelson is caught in half guard again. Round ends.

Round 2: Nelson fires a couple big rights. “Big Country” flurries in again. Barnett with a leg kick but he takes a counter. Barnett’s bleeding from the nose. Nice left from Barnett. Nelson returns fire. Barnett stuns Nelson with a nice combo that includes a knee. Nelson clinches up. Crazy. Nelson picks up his mouthpiece during an exchange and puts it back in his mouth…Barnett digs Nelson to the body with some punches. Both guys are starting to look tired. Barnett with more strikes from the clinch. Nelson fires a head kick that appears to partially land. How about that? Barnett with some old school foot stomps. Round ends.

Round 3: Barnett with a nice uppercut. Nelson clinches up and pushes Barnett to the cage. Ref breaks them up. Barnett flurries in. Another knee to the body from Barnett. Hard uppercut from the latter. Barnett’s doing a nice job with the jab. Nelson looks exhausted. “Big Country” is looking for the single leg TD. Wow. Nelson picks Barnett up but still can’t get the TD. Ref breaks them up. Ouch. Hard kick from Barnett to the body. Round ends.

Round 4: Broadcast just said this is the first time ever Nelson’s been in the fourth round…Barnett clinches up. Nelson gets the TD but Barnett scrambles back to his feet. Barnett plants an elbow. Barnett starts pouring in shots along the cage. Nelson takes them all. Wow. Hard elbow from Barnett. More shots from Barnett. Nelson fires back an elbow and shoots a TD. Wow. Barnett looks for a leg lock and gives up his back. Barnett gets to his feet. Nelson is very, very gassed. This is going to a fifth round. Who would have though huh?

Round 5: Barnett hits Nelson with a spinning kick to the body. Nelson fires a body kick.  Barnett has Nelson against the cage. Elbow from Barnett. Nelson likely needs to end this in order to get the victory. Nelson sweepts Barnett to the floor but the latter gets back up. Hard knee to the body from Barnett. Nelson fires a big right but Barnett counters with a body kick. Nelson chucks a thumping right and the final horn goes.
