Conor McGregor has talked repeatedly about his plans to move to lightweight, but according to Dana White, “Notorious” is up for another fight at 145 if he defeats Jose Aldo.
As everyone under the MMA sun knows, McGregor will scrap the long reigning champ at UFC 194 on December 12th. The night before, Frankie Edgar will throw down with Chad Mendes, in what will determine the #1 contender.
Recently, McGregor dismissed the idea of fighting Mendes again, but he did say if Edgar puts on a “phenomenal performance”, he’d be down to fight him.
Recently White appeared on “Fox Sports Live”, and while doing so, the UFC boss man reportedly said this (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“If he beats Jose Aldo, he told me he would also like to fight Frankie,” White said. “We’ll see how this thing plays out.”
“There is no doubt that Conor McGregor is that guy right now,” added White, while referring to the fact lots of guys want to face “Notorious”. “So, I don’t blame all the guys for chasing him around and wanting to fight him.”
If Edgar defeats Mendes, and McGregor is victorious at UFC 194, there’s no question that would be a huge fight. McGregor understands this.
There is unquestionably a lot of people who would like to see Mendes get another crack at McGregor with a full camp, but that rematch probably doesn’t have as much buzz. McGregor stopped Mendes in July to become interim champion.
First things first, however, as McGregor has to become the first man in a decade to defeat Aldo…
UFC 194 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
