Observers have been following Holm’s MMA career for a little while now, since she went 33-2-2 in pro boxing, and has a trophy case full of titles. But, since Holm is just two fights into her UFC run and is ranked #8, her title shot came sooner than most expected. It also has arrived at a time when Rousey has been destroying her competition, and as a result, Holm is a +900 to +1000 underdog heading into the fight.
Well, despite the fact Rousey is a huge, huge favorite to win on November 15th, the champ isn’t talking Holm lightly. While appearing on the latest “UFC Tonight”, here is some of what “Rowdy” had to say about the challenger (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):
“She’s got the best footwork of anyone I’ve ever fought before, so I couldn’t just come up and tie her up right away. She’s a great counterpuncher, I have to be more careful. I can’t be as risky. It’ll take a lot of patience to set her up to break the distance. I’ll have to be a much more mature fighter to finish her. I’ve been keeping my eye one her since before she moved to MMA. I knew our paths would cross at some point. I know I’ve been her focus since she came into this, but she’s been in the back of my mind the whole time too.”
This is one of the reasons why Rousey has become one of the most dominant champions the sport has ever known; she seemingly always respects the abilities of her opponents. Although most people will be absolutely shocked if Holm defeats Rousey, there’s no doubt that she has some very dangerous tools at her disposal.
She’s also very accustomed to fighting under pressure and in title fights, although, this will unquestionably be Holm’s biggest bout to date. Not only is it against the biggest star in MMA, but it will take place in the massive Etihad Stadium in Melbourne.
