Bellator’s Joe Warren Says “It Sucks”, But Nick Diaz Has to Deal With Fall Out

The MMA world is still buzzing about the news that Nick Diaz has been suspended for five years, and while Joe Warren feels for him, he’s not shocked by the decision either.

On Monday, jaws were dropped throughout the sport, after it was announced that the Nevada Commission has suspended Diaz for five years. Since Diaz has tested positive for weed, three times, everyone knew he would likely receive a stiff sentence. But five years?

Well, recently Warren was asked to weigh-in on the situation by MMA Junkie.com, and here is some of what the former Bellator champ had to say:

“That’s terrible for him,” Warren said. “It’s a law, though. I’m the first one to say, you break a law, you’ve got to deal with it.”

“He’s done it three times, and there’s offenses after the first offense,” Warren said. “So we all know this. It sucks that they’re doing this because of THC – it’s not a performance-enhancing drug, and it’s legal in most of the states that we live in. But it’s the law, and he knows it, and we all know the law. It sucks.”

Yup. There’s certainly a lot of people who agree with Warren on the ‘sucks’ part, as well as his point about weed not being a PED.

Unless Diaz is able to successfully appeal the suspension, he will be 37 years old by the time he fights again. So, in some ways, one could argue that the NSAC enacted a lifetime ban. Right now, it’s kind of hard to imagine Diaz launching a comeback after not fighting for five years.

Warren, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight LC Davis at Bellator 143 on September 25th. Bellator’s “Dynamite” card takes place this Saturday in San Jose.
