Cris “Cyborg” Justino has made some adjustments to her plan of making the drop to bantamweight, as Invicta FC’s featherweight champ will reportedly fight at 140 next, rather than 135.
If you’ve been following all the drama regarding Justino, and whether she’ll fight Ronda Rousey at some point, then you know the plan is for “Cyborg” to cut to 135. The UFC apparently has a deal in place, whereby, if Justino cuts tot 135 and wins a bout, then she’ll be tapped to fight the promotion’s bantamweight champ.
“Cyborg” has repeatedly called for a catch-weight bout with Rousey, but the latter and the UFC aren’t interested.
Well, following Invicta FC 14 this past weekend, the promotion’s president, Shanon Knapp told the press that Justino will fight at 140 in November. The date and venue for the card has yet to be determined, and it remains to be seen who “Cyborg” will fight.
Justino (14-1) quickly took out Faith Van Duinn in her last title defense, which took place in July. Prior to that “Cyborg” stormed through Charmaine Tweet in February.
So, it will be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming weeks regarding this. If Justino makes the drop to 140, and wins, would the UFC sign off on a bout with Rousey? Probably not.
As it stands now, “Cyborg” will likely see how things go for this fight in November, and then attempt the drop to 135. So, really, a bout with Rousey probably won’t materialize until mid to late next year (if it does).
Rousey, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight Holly Holm at UFC 193 on November 14th. That card will take place in Melbourne, Australia.
