Despite rampant rumors that Evan Tanner would be returning to the UFC in 2007 it appears unlikely that his return will happen anytime soon. In a recent message on his official website Tanner discusses various problems he currently faces as well as his MMA status:
I have not been training at all, despite what the rumors say. I’ve signed no fights.
Tanner was rumored to be fighting Dean Lister at UFC 79 in December.

In other UFC 79 news Roger Huerta announced over the weekend that he will be fighting at UFC 79 though no opponent has been announced.

Thats a real same I would have loved to see Evan Tanner back in the Octagon he is a real exciting fighter to watch, and it would have been great to see if still had what it takes.
I would have loved to see Tanner back in the UFC, too Mr T. Hopefully he gets his life where it needs to be and then he makes a comeback to MMA.
yeah it sucks that tanner is not coming back yet but i hope they give hureta a hard fight and not a debut guy make him fight stevenson

Does anyone think that Huerta might get a really tough opponent? How does a match of Huerta vs. Guida sound? That would be an explosive fight.
I definitely think they will increase the talent of his opposition and I expect it to be a UFC veteran. Guida vs. Huerta sounds like a good fight but I think the UFC wants both of them to win right now so that fight might not happen until mid-2008. I’d like to see it though.
Agreed Kris – I see them putting him against Stevenson or maybe Tyson Griffin for a title shot. BTW, I’ve heard people mention that Huerta is highly overrated and I tend to think he deserves all the credit he gets and he’s an amazing fighter. Am I alone on that?
I don’t think you’re alone on that but I hesitate to call him amazing until I see him fight some top competition. I think a title shot is a minimum of 6 months away and up to a year because they have eased him into the UFC essentially and he needs to fight one or two top tier guys before he will be a legitimate title fighter in my eyes. I am not disagreeing that what he’s done in the UFC is impressive but the competition needs to be ramped up.
Griffin possible but I expect Stevenson to fight Penn for the title at UFC 78 though with another win by Huerta he could possible fight the winner of a Stevenson-Penn bout in 2008.
this is total bs… come back evan… you would dominate the mw class. as far as huerta, dont get me wrong… the boy is a good fighter… but he has won some close decisions against UFC fighters at other venues, some very contreversial. i think ufc needs to stop feeding him wins to appeal to the latin american market. i want to see Huerta fight Wiman again… chances are, Wiman would mop the floor with him. Penn is getting the next title shot, he deserves it. he is the best in the division by far. but yeah.. enough of the ranting.
I think his competition will take a step up at UFC 79 and a lot more fans will accept him. If the UFC is trying to appeal to the Latin American market why put Leonard Garcia on the undercard of an event?
Hindsight being 20/20, Kris you called it.
what a awesome match Huerta vs. Guida. I think Huerta proved himself by repeatedly getting out of submissions and coming back in the final round for the win.
